10 things you should know before getting a cat.

1. You will never pee alone again. Seriously. Get used to having a furry friend watch you, sit on you or even pee with you (if you keep a litter tray in your bathroom).

2. 6am wakeup calls are a thing. If your cat sleeps in your bedroom, you'll be woken up by gentle meowing and pawing of your face. If your cat sleeps outside your bedroom, loud bangs, scratching and sounds of a massacre happening outside are to be expected.

3. Everything is a toy. Boxes, tights, shoes, doors, desks, window sills, curtains, beds, sofas, bags, you name it, your cat will want to play with it. Except that actual cat toy you spent £4.75 on at pets at home.

4. Cuddles are out of the question. Unless your cat requires your attention, then she will probably attract it by climbing on top of you or sitting on whatever you're trying to read/look at.

5. Laptops are not only for working on, they are also warm spots for cats to sleep on. Especially when you're trying to work.

6.Cats can use Facebook. I've lost count of the number of times I've had to intervene before my status ends up as "iiiiiiigddddddddddddddddddddddghhhhhhhhh" because my lovely kitty has decided to walk across and sit on my laptop.

7. Everything needs to be in a drawer/cupboard and stuck down unless you want your cat to move it and play with it. Seriously doesn't matter what. If it moves it's a toy! (see number 3)

8. Cats think that whatever you're eating/drinking, they should be eating/drinking it too. Even if they don't like it.

9. Shower time is not a solo experience for you any more! If your furry friend is a fan of the wet stuff, expect to be joined there. If like mine, your kitty isn't friends with water, she'll just sit at stare at your nakedness then rub herself all over your nice smooth freshly shaved legs, leaving behind lovely patches of fur.

10. You will never have to ex-foliate your face again. A cats tongue is like a thousand tiny little knives being dragged over your skin. Your cat will want to lick every inch of your face and nothing you can do will stop her.
